What is a Host?

Be part of the ecotourism movement by renting out your land to travellers looking for an authentic wild camping experience!

As a Bivouacs Host, you’ll provide one or more private pitches where travellers can park their van or pitch their tent for a maximum of two nights, for a fee. You’ll retain control over the availability of your land and the conditions of their stay.

Why list your site for rent?

  1. Give your land a new life and share its beauty with others.
  2. Earn additional income.
  3. Be supported by a team of local experts close to you.
  4. Rest easy, as we’ll take care of everything and our regional ambassadors are there to help.
  5. Help people discover your region and contribute to the development of your local area.
  6. Benefit from the strong reputation and marketing clout of the Huttopia network.

They trusted us!

I’m a refrigeration driver and I’m away on the roads around France all year round. The Colombe beach site is magnificent, but I don’t have the time to go there. It’s a real shame that other people can’t enjoy it. I’m entrusting you with my site. I really like the values of Bivouacs and there should be more people like you.

Bernard P.

Through hitchhiking and long-distance sailing, I’ve been able to see incredible places around the world. With Bivouacs, I’m now helping others to discover my region by finding and maintaining some of the most beautiful spots in Finistère. All kinds of activities are offered to teach people about these places and get the community actively involved in their protection.

About you

Do you have a site or a section of land you can make available to us?

Go to the ‘Share a site’ page on our website (link to the ‘Share a site’ page) to find all the information you need, or fill in this form to tell us a bit more about your site (location, any facilities, nearby attractions, availability, etc.) and send a few photos.

We’ll get back to you soon to arrange to meet you and visit your spot.

What types of land are accepted?

We are looking for sites surrounded by nature, large enough to contain one or two pitches maximum. Sites must be safe and not located in areas at risk of dangers such as floods or rockfalls.
The site must fulfil our promise of offering exclusive camping spots.

What are my responsibilities if I become a Host?

Each owner agrees to entrust us with their land. We agree, alongside the Bivouacs Huttopia community, to take care of it. Every traveller signs a charter listing the 10 commandments (link to the charter).

To make sure everything is clear, a contract is signed specifying each party’s responsibilities.

Do I need to provide facilities?

You are not required to provide facilities. However, some items can improve the experience for travellers, like a picnic table, a water source or a composting toilet. If your site offers these facilities, this can be specified in the description of your Bivouac Spot.

What are the benefits of becoming a Host?

By joining Bivouacs Huttopia, you’ll be sharing the beauty of your land with others while also earning additional income.

Is there a registration fee?

There is no registration fee to become a Host with Bivouacs Huttopia. We simply take a commission as specified below in ‘How much will I get paid?’.

How much will I get paid?

Bivouacs Huttopia pays 35-50% of the amount received, excluding taxes, to the owners. The basic rate is €30 (high season, July & August) or €20 (low season, September-June).

If an owner has just one Bivouac Spot: 35% (owner), 15% (ambassadors), 50% (Bivouacs Huttopia).
If an owner has 3 Bivouac Spots that belong to them: (50% to owner, 50% to Bivouacs Huttopia).
If an owner proposes 3 Bivouac Sites, belonging to them or to friends: They receive 50% of the rental fee for their site, and for their friends’ Bivouac Spots, they will receive 15% (as an ambassador), their friend will receive 35%, and 50% will go to Bivouacs Huttopia.

How do bookings work for hosts?

When a traveller books a pitch on your site, you will receive an email notification containing the dates, the name of the Bivouac Spot, etc.

Can I remove or pause availability for certain periods?

Yes. Via the owner interface, you can mark your site as unavailable on certain dates in advance. In emergencies, you can also mark your site as unavailable at the last minute (e.g. if it is inaccessible due to bad weather or there’s a tree blocking the entrance).

How will I receive my payment?

Payments are made at the end of every month and include all confirmed bookings of your site. You will receive your payment via bank transfer.

What assurance do I have that my land will be kept unspoiled?

All travellers agree to sign a charter. Thanks to regular checks by other travellers and owners, we will be informed if they do not comply with this charter and will be able to ban them.

Our general terms and conditions of sale also specify that the traveller can be held responsible for any damage they cause to a site, whether deliberate or accidental.

The contract stipulates that we assume responsibility only for any injury or property damage that we might cause to third parties when we make your site available to travellers. This mainly concerns travellers and applies to incidents that occur in connection with our running of the site (for example, a branch falls on a customer or their vehicle).

What do I do if there is a problem with a traveller?

If you encounter a problem (non-compliance with the rules, disturbance, etc.), you can contact us at info@bivouacs.huttopia.com or get in touch with our ambassadors directly so that we can find an appropriate solution.

Is there a problem at the site? Want to make a complaint?

Our team work hard day to day to support you in the management of your site and give you the best possible experience as a host.

If you encounter a problem or would like to make a complaint, please get in touch with your contact person directly or contact us at info@bivouacs.huttopia.com.
